NHPTV
was one of four public television stations to be awarded a 4x4
Community Partnership Grant from The
National Center for Outreach, a public television organization
designed to encourage participation and effect change at the community
level.
NHPTV partnered with the University
of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, New
Hampshire Library Association, and Volunteer
NH! because of their statewide reach, unique resources, and
shared public service missions. The partners developed the
Partnership for a Safe New Hampshire, a project
centered around the topic of emergency preparedness to
raise awareness and foster discussion at the community level.
Working with personnel from the New Hampshire Department of Safety’s
Bureau of Emergency Management (BEM), the Partnership
for a Safe New Hampshire conducted meetings at eight
community venues throughout the state in October and November
2003. Presenters included representatives from the Bureau of Emergency
Management, UNH Cooperative Extension and the Citizen Corps of
Volunteer NH!
These meetings were designed to encourage public discussion of
emergency preparedness and related issues, such as terrorism,
homeland security and public safety in general, with a special
emphasis on local needs and concerns.
